The Corporate Tax Resources Process

Presenting The Formal Appeal

How long does it take?

The state of Michigan law requires every municipality to set Board of Review dates in March of each year. There is only a small window of opportunity to appeal at the Board of Review. Michigan law further states that it is required to petition the Board of Review prior to requesting to be heard at the Michigan tax Tribunal. If an appeal is filed formally with the Michigan Tax Tribunal, a property owner can expect a 2 to 3 year process before a successful conclusion is achieved.

Can you do it yourself?

Yes, but the municipalities are taking a stance to property tax reductions that can only be described as a siege mentality. Only the most well documented and represented properties will receive appropriate reduction. Even then, CTR has found that the Board Members are hesitant to make the correct adjustments that are required for most claims. This holds true for the formal appeal process at the State level with the Michigan Tax Tribunal.

Why should I sign up now if the Board of Review does not meet until March?

With the current market conditions in the Real Estate market there are many other people that we will be servicing. The time required to properly document your home will not allow us to accept last minute request, and in fact, we had to postpone several hundred applicants with viable properties last year which are now on this year's list.
